Thank you to the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists' Association for funding this project and wanting to educate on how a dental hygienist can make a huge impact on not just oral health but overall health. Dental Hygienists are educated dental professionals who focus on the prevention of disease in the mouth. A visit to a dental hygienist can save an individuals life, as they can help to identify disease in its earliest stages. Research studies have been published showing that bacteria in the mouth can travel throughout the system possibly leading to systemic diseases such as heart disease, uncontrolled diabetes, Alzheimer's, low term birth weight and cancers. Make sure to visit your dental hygienist regularly and allow them to educate you on what you can do to enjoy overall health.
